About this experience
Experience Szentendre, a tiny riverside city bursting with creativity and artistic spirit. Famous for its vibrant Serbian heritage, charming streets, and lively art scene, this walk uncovers colorful houses, local galleries, unique museums, and beautiful Orthodox churches—plus insider tips for the best cafés along the Danube.
Our journey begins with a quick local train ride from Budapest to the gates of the Danube Bend, arriving in Szentendre. From the station, we stroll into the heart of this picturesque city—renowned for its community of artists, galleries, and vibrant cultural life.
As we wander through the Main Square and along the lively main street filled with craft shops, you’ll hear stories of Szentendre’s Serbian heritage and the traditions reflected in its six Orthodox churches. We’ll step inside the most beautiful Orthodox church, then meander through cobblestone streets lined with colorful houses, passing cozy cafés and artisan boutiques.
Ascending Donkey Hill, you’ll enjoy beautiful views of the Danube and city rooftops. Throughout the walk, I’ll offer recommendations for unique museums—such as the Margit Kovács Ceramic Museum, Museum of Miniatures, Serbian Orthodox Museum, Ferenczy Museum, and the playful Marzipan Museum—so you can immerse yourself even further at your own pace.
We’ll end along the riverside promenade, with free time to relax, enjoy an ice cream or coffee, and soak up the town’s laid-back atmosphere. At the close of our visit, we’ll return to Budapest by train, carrying with us the creative energy of Szentendre.
